Introduction to Louisiana Wild Mushrooms
Featuring Dr. Steve Antrobus
Tuesday, August 13, 6:30-8pm

Registration and payment required on the LSU Hilltop Arboretum Discover Nature Series website.

Louisiana is blessed with an incredible abundance and diversity of mushrooms, but the learning process can often feel intimidating or overwhelming. Join us as Dr. Antrobus shares information on how to begin the process of safely and confidently identifying both edible and poisonous local mushrooms. The goal of this talk will be to help the novice overcome this hurdle and begin the lifelong process of appreciating and learning about wild mushrooms.

Dr. Steve Antrobus is a Baton Rouge native and a lifelong outdoorsman. After completing his education and plastic surgery training, he returned to Baton Rouge where he specializes in skin cancer removal and facial reconstruction. His interest in wild mushrooms began a decade ago at his family farm in East Feliciana where he also grows native fruit trees and is an active beekeeper. “I want to share my knowledge and experience in mycology with like-minded people who appreciate the wonder and beauty of nature.”

Hilltop, LMNGBR members and students $10
Non-members $15

Baton Rouge Mycological Society (BRMS) is an informal group of people interested in mycology.  BRMS is committed to the promotion of educational and scientific activities related to fungi.  BRMS supports the protection of natural areas and their biological integrity.  We advocate the sustainable use of mushrooms as a resource and endorse responsible mushroom collecting that does not harm the fungi or their habitats.
