Jump back into the swing of NAMA's Zoom Webinar series by joining Eva Gordon as she presents Basic Mycology for Educators. This presentation will offer an intro to Kingdom Fungi, including taxonomy, anatomy and life cycle, ecological roles and the importance of fungi to the functioning of our world's biome. Eva will focus on Basidiomycota and Ascomycota, spotlighting a few of the major groups within these phyla. The class is designed to help teachers navigate through various available resources, including lesson plans and hands-on activities, as well as how to cover the science standards while teaching mycology -- but all of us can benefit from this refresher to our basic understanding of this humblingly vast kingdom of life!

Eva Gordon has a bachelor's degree in Zoology and is working on her master’s degree in Biology. She is a science educator who has taught AP Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry and Environmental Science for twenty years. She was instrumental in bringing the subject of Biotechnology to the SFUSD and San Mateo County School Districts. She has also taught STEM programs from elementary to high-school level and has presented numerous workshops to science educators. Eva is an author, a certified North Texas Master Naturalist, and serves currently as Vice President/Fungi Times Newsletter Editor for the NAMA-affiliated North Texas Mycological Association. She also serves on NAMA's Education Committee.

Baton Rouge Mycological Society (BRMS) is an informal group of people interested in mycology.  BRMS is committed to the promotion of educational and scientific activities related to fungi.  BRMS supports the protection of natural areas and their biological integrity.  We advocate the sustainable use of mushrooms as a resource and endorse responsible mushroom collecting that does not harm the fungi or their habitats.
