Baton Rouge Mycological Society

This is the first organizational meeting of amateurs and professionals who are interested in fungi, mushrooms, morels and related organisms.

We are an organization that encourages the education, research, cultivation, hunting, indentification and the cooking of mushrooms. We share our knowledge of mushrooms through meetings, classes, workshops and field trips. This is the first meeting to discuss interest in the Baton Rouge area to nuture collaboration and community for the understanding and appreciation of a wide diversity of mushroom species in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas. 

The meeting agenda will include brief introductions so we can get to know each other. Dr Steve Antrobus will give an overview presentation on identification, uses and foraging. Cyrus Lester, owner of the family run Mushroom Maggie's Farm will share his passion for growing mushrooms in a petri dish to ready to eat (farm to table). We will also create a shared resource list for future meetings, forays and events based upon what levels and interests of the group.

Baton Rouge Mycological Society (BRMS) is an informal group of people interested in mycology.  BRMS is committed to the promotion of educational and scientific activities related to fungi.  BRMS supports the protection of natural areas and their biological integrity.  We advocate the sustainable use of mushrooms as a resource and endorse responsible mushroom collecting that does not harm the fungi or their habitats.
